The Power of Tarot/Oracle Card Images
In 1988, at the age of 30, I eagerly delved into the world of tarot, purchasing my first deck — the Motherpeace Tarot by Karen Vogel and Vicki Noble. Determined to grasp the meanings, I dedicated myself to memorization, fueled by a strong desire to master the art of reading tarot, both for my own introspection and for others. As a young wife, mother and business professional seeking answers, the cards became my source of insight.
Despite the passage of years and the acquisition of various decks, traditional tarot reading eluded me. However, what I did unearth was a profound appreciation for the transformative potential held within the imagery and symbols of tarot and oracle cards. These powerful tools have proven instrumental in my personal growth and continuous journey of self-discovery.
Why ?:
Archetypal Imagery: Tarot cards are rich in archetypal imagery that taps into universal symbols and themes. These symbols resonate with fundamental aspects of the human experience, making it easier for individuals to connect with and interpret the cards in a personal context.
Visual Representation of the Unconscious: The images on tarot cards can serve as a mirror to the unconscious mind. They have the ability to evoke emotions, memories, and intuitive insights that may not be readily accessible through rational thought alone. Exploring these symbols can lead to a deeper understanding of one's thoughts, feelings, and motivations.
Storytelling and Narrative: Each tarot card tells a story through its imagery and symbolism. By arranging cards in a spread, individuals can create a narrative that reflects their current life situation or a specific question. This storytelling aspect allows for a more holistic exploration of personal experiences and challenges.
Intuitive Interpretation: Tarot encourages intuitive thinking and interpretation. Rather than relying solely on logical analysis, users are prompted to trust their instincts and inner wisdom when interpreting the cards. This process fosters self-trust and a deeper connection to one's inner self.
Reflective Contemplation: Engaging with tarot cards requires a period of reflective contemplation. This contemplative process encourages individuals to pause, consider different perspectives, and gain insights into their own emotions, desires, and fears. It provides a structured and symbolic framework for self-reflection.
Symbolic Language: Symbols have a powerful impact on the subconscious mind. Tarot and oracle cards use a symbolic language that transcends cultural and linguistic barriers, making them accessible to people from various backgrounds. This universality allows individuals to connect with the symbols on a personal level, transcending specific cultural meanings.
Empowerment and Choice: Tarot and oracle readings often emphasize the concept of free will and personal agency. The cards may highlight potential paths, challenges, and opportunities, empowering individuals to make informed decisions and take control of their lives. This sense of empowerment is crucial for personal growth and self-discovery.
36 years later, I still cherish my Motherpeace deck, among a collection of other tarot and oracle decks that have been wellsprings of inspiration and wisdom for me. From these influences, I crafted my own oracle deck, the Oracle of the Seven Doors, designed as a thoughtful companion to my work in creativity coaching.
